LOVE IS IN THE AIR
There was plenty of love in the Flagstaff Gardens on September 21.
Melbourne City Mission’s Youth Action Group (YAG) was out in force, reassuring passers-by that the world is a beautiful place but it can be improved with more compassion.
The “Compassion Booth” was established in recognition of International Day of Peace and Non-Violence and its 2017 theme “Respect, Safety and Dignity for All.”
Spokesperson Elvis Martin said the event was designed to spark conversation amongst Victoria’s youth.
“We’re encouraging understanding between diverse groups to inspire acts of compassion.” Mr Martin said.
He said the group had narrowed its focus to issues surrounding gender; race and culture; homelessness; indigenous rights; mental health & LGBTIQ+.
“We aspire to create a sense of unity within the community” Mr Martin said.
